About
Fly Away Redbirds – Afternoon Ride is a round-trip excursion on the famed Redbird subway cars, in service from 1959 through 2003. The New York Transit Museum runs this ride, which starts and ends at the historic Old South Ferry station, opened in 1905 and closed to the public since 2017. Before the ride, visitors can photograph the vintage train on the platform and see original mosaics and terracotta artwork. The 90-100-minute trip goes up to the Bronx and through a train yard for a behind-the-scenes view before returning downtown.
