About
An illustrated lecture at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum exploring modernist flatware and what knives, forks, and spoons by modern designers reveal about their creators' ideas. Design writer Dung Ngo, author of Knife Fork Spoon: Modernist Cutlery 1900-2025 and collector of modern flatware, discusses how designers from Gio Ponti to Zaha Hadid rethought the place setting, in conversation moderated by Emily Orr, Associate Curator and Acting Head of Product Design and Decorative Arts. The program is presented in conjunction with Design Across Time: Exploring the Smithsonian's Design Collection and includes an optional audience Q&A. It takes place in the museum's wheelchair-accessible Lecture Room with live CART captioning.
