About
A conversation between two celebrated classical dancers about how their traditional dance forms can express gender beyond rigid binaries. Odissi master Bijayini Satpathy explores gender rooted in the vocabulary of Odissi, shaped by both feminine histories and male lineages, joined by Cambodian classical dancer Sophiline Cheam-Shapiro in a far-reaching demonstration of gender in motion. The discussion presents themes and ideas from Bijayini's latest solo dance piece with live music accompaniment, Trikāyā, which has its NYC premiere at Asia Society the next day.
