Growth of the Soil

A film adaptation of Growth of the Soil, Knut Hamsun's Nobel Prize-winning 1917 novel. Isak, a man without a past, seeks a place to settle and carves life from a barren stretch of land high above the tree line, until he meets Inger, a solitary woman shaped by resilience and quiet secrecy. Together they endure the elements and build a life and family as seasons turn, until time, hardship and desire reshape them. Director Hans Petter Moland, best known for his collaborations with Stellan Skarsgård, casts Herbert Nordrum as Isak and Asta Kamma August as Inger in this fervently realistic story of one man's battle with a rugged environment.
