About
A screening of the drama Beloved, accompanied by a film talk, wrapping up the Films From the Fjords series. Directed by Norwegian filmmaker Erik Poppe and based on the only original screenplay by Nobel Prize-winning author Jon Fosse, the film follows Asle and Gerd, who find each other in a tavern in a small coastal town and build a seemingly-idyllic life with their son in the crook of the fjord. Their love is put to the test when Asle, a sailor, is drawn by the call of the sea, leaving Gerd alone with the child as distance grows between them. Told through silence, glances and landscape, it asks how much distance love can endure before it breaks.
