About
A book event at Rizzoli Bookstore celebrating the new volume "OLANA: Frederic Church's Vision of Art and Landscape", a survey of how artist Frederic Church's vision transformed the Hudson Valley landscape. Sean E. Sawyer, President of The Olana Partnership, and Thomas L. Woltz, Principal of Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects, will be in conversation with freelance design journalist Ian Volner, followed by a booksigning. The book, published for the 2026 bicentennial of Church's birth, showcases his artist-designed home and 250-acre landscape overlooking the Hudson River, blending art, architecture, and panoramic scenery. It features Church's paintings, newly commissioned photography of Olana's Persian-inspired architecture and curving carriage roads, and the revival of Church's living landscape through replanting native species.
