The General
The Metrograph, Ludlow Street 7, 10002 New York, Manhattan
About
A screening of the silent comedy film "The General." It was made by Buster Keaton and Clyde Bruckman and stars Keaton as Johnnie Gray, an engineer rejected by the Confederate Army who shows his mettle when the Union tries to make off with his train, in one of the most incredible sustained chase sequences in all of silent comedy. The film is wall-to-wall with elaborate, antic gags, yet also marked by a quiet sense of pastoral beauty.
