About

The Grove Street Stompers perform Dixieland and traditional jazz at Arthur's Tavern in the West Village. Founded in 1962 by pianist and leader Bill Dunham, the band has played every Monday night there since, now led by self-taught trombonist Peter Ballance. Their music is a mix of Dixieland and swing, in the Eddie Condon style, with a sit-in policy welcoming professional and amateur musicians to join in. The current lineup includes Mike Weatherly on bass and vocals, Joe Licari on clarinet, John Halsey, Barry Bryson on trumpet and Giampoalo Biaggi on drums.
