About
The World of Charles Henri Ford & Pavel Tchelitchew is an exhibition of photographs by Charles Henri Ford and works on paper by Pavel Tchelitchew, curated by photographer Allen Frame. It offers an intimate portrait of an enduring artistic partnership and the extraordinary cultural world the two inhabited in Paris, New York, and Rome, from the 1930s through the 1950s. Ford, a writer and artist who worked in poetry, fiction, photography, collage, film, publishing, and drawing, and Tchelitchew, a Russian-born figure of the European and American avant-garde, were each other's muses during their relationship from 1933 until Tchelitchew's death in 1957. Ford photographed Tchelitchew extensively and Tchelitchew painted Charles, and the exhibition also includes photographs of the pair by their notable artist friends George Platt-Lynes, Cecil Beaton, and Carl Van Vechten.
