Walter Annenberg Lecture: Alex Da Corte
Whitney Museum of American Art, Gansevoort Street 99, 10014 New York, Manhattan
About
The Walter Annenberg Lecture is an annual talk at the Whitney Museum of American Art established in honor of the philanthropist and former ambassador Walter H. Annenberg to advance the country's understanding of its art and culture. This edition features Venezuelan-American artist Alex Da Corte, who is inspired by Pop Art and Surrealism and informed by American cultural references. He is co-curator of the exhibition Roy Lichtenstein: Like New, a retrospective presenting Lichtenstein in the contemporary context of accelerated production and circulation of images. In the talk he discusses his engagement with Lichtenstein and the idea of the copy, drawing on his experiences as an artist and curator, followed by a conversation with Scott Rothkopf, the museum's Alice Pratt Brown Director.
