About
The documentary 'Reclaiming Cocoa' looks behind the sweet facade of the chocolate industry at structures founded by Swiss missionaries who brought the cocoa plant to Ghana in the 19th century. It shows how people in West Africa, who perform most of the work at the start of the supply chain yet keep only a small share of the profits, refuse to accept this inequality any longer. The filmmakers follow their search for new ways to a fairer production, anchoring processing and value creation locally so communities gain more control over their work and products. From the desire for fair trading conditions, a movement emerges that questions colonial dependencies and wants to shape the future of cocoa itself.
