About
„Aşina – The Sounds of Mesopotamia“ is a concert in the Kleiner Saal of the Konzerthaus Berlin featuring transmitted melodies and improvisations between the Euphrates and the Tigris. Behind the event is kemençe player and curator Derya Türkan together with an ensemble of Dilek Türkan (vocals), İbrahim Muslimani (percussion & vocals), Serkan Halili (kanun), Shahab Azinmehr (setar & vocals), Efrén López (oud) and Sedef Erçetin (cello). Mesopotamia counts among the oldest soundscapes in the world, and the many civilisations of this region share a common musical heritage. In the concert, old modes, folk melodies and improvisations meet; Turkish, Syrian, Kurdish and Persian sounds invite an encounter with a living tradition.
