About
A lecture on the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945 and the physicians' movement for the prevention of nuclear war (IPPNW). The speaker is Dr. Heinrich Niemann, who was managing director of the GDR section of IPPNW from 1986 to 1990. IPPNW was founded in 1980 during the Cold War by three American and three Soviet physicians and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985. The lecture covers the effects of the bombings, the growing danger of nuclear war, the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, and a historical look back at the GDR section until its merger with the West German section in 1991.
