About
»Die Wildente« (The Wild Duck) is a stage production of Henrik Ibsen's play exploring the value of lying, shown in Saal B at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz. It is directed by Thomas Ostermeier, in a version by Maja Zade and Thomas Ostermeier using Hinrich Schmidt-Henkel's translation. Gregers Werle returns after years away to the house of his father, a wealthy industrialist who once ruined the family of his best friend Hjalmar Ekdal and paired his former mistress Gina with him. Gregers moves in with the Ekdal family to expose the lies on which their existence rests, convinced that the truth will lead them to a happier, more honest life – while the play asks whether truth and absolute honesty can also be destructive.
