About
The international travelling exhibition „Forced to Work – Willing to Survive“ takes up forced labour under National Socialism and its consequences for millions of people throughout Europe. It was created as a joint Erasmus+ project by partners in Italy, Austria and Poland, and is shown at the Nazi Forced Labour Documentation Centre in Berlin. Personal biographies bring into view the fates of civilian workers, prisoners of war, concentration camp inmates and persecuted Jews from all over Europe, with cases from the Mauthausen-Gusen camp complex, the Hermann Göring Works in Linz and the Sobibor extermination camp. One section compares the historical contexts of occupied Poland, annexed Austria and Italy, which remained allied with Nazi Germany until 1943, and connects them to present-day exploitation.
