About

The programme “Health and Happiness” combines two films with a talk by the filmmaker Yingli Ma. Curated by Fiona Berg, Sophie Holzberger and Arisa Purkpong, it asks what role community plays within a capitalist-patriarchal order and how change, happiness or health are possible at all. In “Helfen können wir uns nur selbst”, Gardi Deppe accompanies young women in a West German sanatorium, staging a role play in which they give voice to their experiences of exploitation. For “Die fünfblättrige Fliederblüte”, Yingli Ma visits her hometown Beijing and paints a picture of China after the crushing of the 1989 democracy movement in conversations with four school friends.
