About
The Freundeskreis Willy-Brandt-Haus presents the documentary “Go Clara Go” about the artists’ group Clara Mosch, who together with the cooperatively run Galerie Oben proved from the 1970s onward that art in the GDR could be free. The film was made by director Sylvie Kürsten, who traces the creative energy of this legendary GDR parallel world on the edge of the Saxon Erzgebirge together with its protagonists of the time. Her documentary “Go Clara Go: die Kunst des kreativen Widerstands” reveals an extraordinary chapter of East German art history, one that attracted many fans but also Stasi informers. After the screening there will be a panel discussion with the director and Gunnar Barthel, the former head of the Galerie Oben.

Critics
7.5Very good
Critics praise the skilful composition, the witty invented off-screen voice of Clara Mosch, and the film's recovery of a forgotten chapter of East German art. Little is faulted beyond the niche nature of its subject.
