About

Ina Kancheva & Ensemble: Midnight Train to Byzantium | Eine musikalische Reise in den Orient is a concert at the Kühlhaus (Kubus), part of the Into the Open festival, the music festival of the new generation that connects across borders and genres. The singer Ina Kancheva and her international ensemble – including Quito Gato on theorbo and guitars, Margherita Pupulin on violin and Sokratis Sinopoulos on Greek lyra – invite listeners on a journey along the legendary Orient Express route: in 15 stations from Paris via Venice, Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Bucharest, Sofia and Athens to Istanbul. Folk music meets works by Legrand, Schönberg, Bartók, Enescu, Theodorakis and Weill, and with theorbo, Greek lyra and kanun a soundscape arises between East and West. The farewell is Bizet's Adieux de l'hôtesse arabe, with arrangements by Quito Gato.
