About
A guided tour of the hidden tunnel structures at Innsbrucker Platz in Berlin. It looks at the U4 subway line and the deep cut at Innsbrucker Platz, where a motorway tunnel for the A100 has left hardly any room for regular service, making the priorities of the car-friendly urban redevelopment of the post-war era especially clear. The tour also visits an old single-track subway tunnel from 1910, which before the Second World War served as an exit to a depot and during the war as an air-raid shelter for local residents, and has been cut off from the network since the 1960s. Entry to the tunnel is through a floor hatch and down an iron ladder into the old subway shaft, and sturdy shoes plus warm, robust clothing should be brought along.
