Die Mütter: Isaac Chong Wai meets Käthe Kollwitz.
About
The duo exhibition “Die Mütter” presents works by Isaac Chong Wai and Käthe Kollwitz at Kulturhaus Schwartzsche Villa. Isaac Chong Wai, an artist living in Berlin and Hong Kong, holds a posthumous dialogue with Käthe Kollwitz, one of the most significant German artists of the 20th century. Curated by Christine Nippe, it focuses on mothers and their fear of war with regard to their children, asking which feelings of guilt, grief and anger accompany them and how past and present are connected. On show are three of Kollwitz's sculptures, including the well-known “Pietà” (1937–38), Isaac Chong Wai's 2022 two-channel video installation “Die Mütter”, and photographs such as “Breathwork” and a self-portrait.
