About
The Under Berlin Film Festival (UBFF) is an independent, non-profit festival and the Berlin node of the Transterritorial Underground Film Festival. This programme brings together three short films: „Brief Masquerade“ from Mexico tells of Napo, who has lost his joy for life and is taken to the theatre by his friend Togo, where he discovers something that will transform his life. „Salman Wants to Go“ from Türkiye follows Salmane, a Senegalese refugee in Turkey who saves money to reach Europe, is repeatedly beaten back and then disappears, while the film, following his own text, unearths the memories he left behind with the help of his phone. „Where Is Home?“ from Indonesia follows a boy born and raised in prison who grows up in an orphanage, while his mother is drawn back into a world of addiction, absence and instability with little room to become the parent her child needs. Behind the festival are the artistic direction and general production by Peri Azar / Bies Culture (Spain) and the production by Transterritorial Underground Film Festival (Argentina); this year's selection focuses particularly on grief, binarity and human experiences that often remain outside the centre of the narrative.
