About

A major solo exhibition by the artist and filmmaker Amar Kanwar, transforming Serpentine North Gallery into a meditative visual and sonic environment. Over three decades, the New Delhi-based artist has created lyrical films and multi-video installations moving between documentary, travelogue and visual essay. Shaped by the history of the Indian subcontinent, his work investigates the legacies of decolonisation and the 1947 Partition, bearing witness to displacement, power, violence, justice and memory. Visitors encounter a trilogy of films, including Such a Morning (2017), The Peacock's Graveyard (2023) and the new seven-screen installation The Charcoal Man (2026), premiering at Serpentine, with the darkened galleries shown in very low light and moments of complete darkness.
