Dead Mountaineer's Hotel
Institute of Contemporary Arts, The Mall, London, Covent Garden
About
A screening of the film Dead Mountaineer's Hotel, a cult blend of detective noir and extra-terrestrial encounter tale. Directed by Estonian filmmaker Grigori Kromanov and based on a 1970 novel by the Strugatsky brothers, it follows Inspector Peter Glebsky, who arrives at an eerie guesthouse in snowy mountains on an anonymous tip and finds things are not quite as they seem. It features Jüri Järvet, striking modernist set design and a surprisingly progressive take on gender fluidity. The film was shot in the mountains of Kazakhstan.
