Makam Salam, a London-based collective of Pan-Middle-Eastern diaspora musicians where maqam modes meet jazz improvisation, plays the EFG London Jazz Festival at The Cockpit. They are joined by Palestinian-Israeli singer Mira Awad and London-based Kurdish Alevi singer-songwriter Olcay Bayır, with Arabic, Hebrew, Turkish and Kurdish songs carried on oud, clarinet, violin, keys, drums and percussion. The night offers songs, stories and dialogue with the audience, lit by immersive visuals from VJ Joe Walton, in the round: audience on every side and the band facing inward, with the audience invited to take an active part in the show.
