About

A major exhibition of works by Fernando Botero, the Colombian artist known for his instantly recognisable visual language called 'Boterismo'. Opera Gallery London brings together works from the 1960s to the artist's final years, spanning portraiture, still life, landscape, sculpture and works on paper. The show highlights how Botero, who passed away in 2023, used expansive forms and harmonious proportions to amplify the presence of everyday subjects, giving them monumentality, sensuality and dignity. Rooted in the memory of Colombia while drawing on European painting traditions, his oeuvre occupies a singular place in the history of Modern art.
