About

I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning is a bittersweet drama about five friends in Birmingham who have known each other since childhood and, now in their 30s, must deal with economic pressures, unfulfilled dreams and unravelling secrets. Directed by Clio Barnard, whose previous work includes Ali & Ava, Dark River and The Selfish Giant, with a screenplay by Enda Walsh. The film stars Anthony Boyle, Daryl McCormack, Jay Lycurgo, Lola Petticrew and Joe Cole, an ensemble of up-and-coming British and Irish actors whose lives are portrayed with great on-screen chemistry. It is a tender depiction of friendship that also highlights how working-class lives are compromised by economic and social pressures.

Critics

8.1Very good

Critics praise the warm ensemble chemistry, tender portrayal of friendship and lively social realism. Some fault occasional preachy passages where political commentary about capitalism and class weighs on the story.
