About

Jaja's African Hair Braiding is a witty, uplifting and heartwarming comedy play set in a bustling braiding salon in Harlem, New York, where women from the neighbourhood gather to have their hair done and share laughter and dreams with a lively team of West African immigrant stylists. It is written by Jocelyn Bioh and directed by Monique Touko, the team behind School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play, and follows the women over one hot summer day as their dreams increasingly pit them against the city they love. The Tony Award-winning show first premiered on Broadway in 2023 before its critically acclaimed UK premiere in 2026, and runs for 1 hour 40 minutes with no interval.
