About
A monumental outdoor sculpture titled 'Stack' by the New York-based artist Nicole Eisenman is displayed in the courtyard of the Royal Academy of Arts. Standing over eight metres tall, it is an abstracted self-portrait of five main forms: a Birkenstock-wearing artist carrying an impossibly balanced stack of people and things, echoing the fairy tale of The Town Musicians of Bremen. The bronze, aluminium and oak figures include Eisenman's cat Edie and a model of the late sculptor Phyllida Barlow, a symbol of the art that nourishes the artist's own work. Admission is free and no booking is required.
