About

An artist-led conversation about how the context of a photograph shapes the way we see it. It accompanies Zhiyan Liu's photographic series Laoniang, which documents the everyday life of her maternal grandmother in rural China. Participants look closely at a single photograph from the exhibition and share their interpretations before learning the circumstances in which it was made, then extend the discussion to other works. Open to all, with no prior knowledge of photography required.
