The Melsonby hoards in context: Stanwick and landscapes of power in later Iron Age north-east England
Society of Antiquaries, Mayfair
About
A lecture on the Melsonby Hoards, large metalwork hoards excavated in North Yorkshire in 2022, which reveal the wealth and display of leading members of late Iron Age communities in north-east England. Professor Colin Haselgrove FSA with Professor Tom Moore FSA explore the context of the hoards and what is known about the people who buried them. Drawing on fieldwork at the power centre at Stanwick, the earthwork of Scots Dike and the enclave at Scotch Corner, the talk examines how society was changing in the decades before the Roman annexation. It forms the Annual York Regional Group Ordinary Meeting, with tea beforehand and a wine reception after.
