The Sugar Kings Duo + Free Louise Balkwill Late Set
Nightjar, City Road 129, EC1V 1JB London, Hoxton
£6
About
An evening of live Cuban music at the bar Nightjar on City Road, with a free late-night jazz set afterwards. The Sugar Kings take their repertoire of son Cubano, vintage mambo and cha cha cha from the gambling dens of pre-revolution Havana, with Flavio Correa on percussion and vocals, Elpidio Caicedo on baby bass and vocals and Daniel Carnago Cuban on tres guitar and vocals. After 11pm, London-based vocalist Louise Balkwill, a rising presence on the European jazz scene praised for her charismatic, blues-infused take on vocal jazz, plays a free late set. The night also brings a special late-night menu, backed by Don Julio, with prices nodding to when Nightjar opened fifteen years ago.
