Viola Day: an hour of viola music with Timothy Ridout.

Viola Day presents a concert of music for viola lasting about an hour without an interval. Timothy Ridout, Wigmore Hall's Associate Artist, is joined by fellow violists Hélène Clément, Ting-Ru Lai, Matthew Lipman, Eivind Ringstad and Georgy Kovalev, with James Baillieu at the piano. The programme spans works by York Bowen, Paul Hindemith, Frank Bridge, Cecil Forsyth, Benjamin Britten and Franz Waxman, celebrating the flowering of new viola music in the first half of the last century inspired by the great violist Lionel Tertis. Highlights include Hindemith's solo Sonata Op. 11 No. 5, Bowen's two Duos in G and Romance in A, Forsyth's Chanson Celtique, miniatures by Bridge and Waxman's Carmen Fantasie.
