About

Alice Riehl's Porcelain Florilegium is an exhibition of large-scale porcelain wall murals at the Museum of Arts and Design. It is the first major U.S. museum presentation of French artist Alice Riehl, a Sèvres-trained porcelain artist who lives and works in Paris. Rethinking plant life in the modern city, the murals draw on botanical imagery from medieval and Renaissance tapestries, French decorative arts, mythology, and close observation of plants. Her florilegium, a historically curated collection of botanical images, treats flora as active subjects, foregrounding root systems, cycles of growth and decline, and pioneer species that flourish in inhospitable urban environments.
