Voyage

"Voyage" is a solo exhibition of new works by the Finnish artist Marianne Huotari. She sculpts hundreds of ceramic beads, medallions, and petals by hand and affixes them to metal armatures with wire, reimagining the traditional Finnish rya long-pile textile technique in ceramics. Her wall works and sculptures draw on gardens, Finnish folklore, and retro, psychedelia-infused imagery, echoing the Pattern and Decoration movement. The beaded pieces emit soft percussive sounds and offer lush, dream-like visions rendered with an haute couture level of handwork.
