Charles Hinman: Gems: Gallery II is an exhibition at Westwood Gallery NYC devoted to the artist's final series, following his death in May 2026. It brings together sculptural shaped canvases made between 2000 and 2014 in Hinman's Bowery loft, showing the culmination of more than six decades of exploration into form, color, light, and space. The first exhibition devoted to the Gems series was held at the Butler Institute of American Art in 2011, and this presentation offers the series in its entirety. Hinman pioneered the shaped canvas from the early 1960s, and these works, with luminous color and dynamic geometry, mark a key chapter in shaped painting in American abstraction.
