About
Stone in the Pond is an installation by the painter Vivian Suter, consisting of dozens of unstretched canvases hung freely in the space or on the wall. Born in Buenos Aires in 1949 and coming from Argentina, Suter lives in the jungle of Guatemala and paints her canvases outdoors in nature. She works in a one-room studio on top of a hill without electricity, applying generous amounts of color with broad, expressive brushstrokes. Her labyrinthine installations reflect the jungle in which she works and can be seen as a contemporary version of Helen Frankenthaler's painting, with the same freedom and intuitive approach to the canvas.
