The Hound of the Baskervilles
The Metrograph, Ludlow Street 7, 10002 New York, Manhattan
About
A 1959 adaptation of the 1902 Sherlock Holmes adventure of the same name, in which the detective is called to Dartmoor to investigate the mysterious death-by-fright of Sir Charles Baskerville, whose estate passes to his heir and nephew, Henry. Directed by Terence Fisher, with Peter Cushing as a Sherlock for the ages and Christopher Lee as Henry. The film wrings every drop of atmosphere out of the tale of mist-shrouded moors and ancestral curses, aided by Jack Asher's subdued Technicolor photography.

Critics
7.1Good
Critics praise the film's Gothic atmosphere, brisk pacing and the lead performances, especially the dynamic between the detective and his companion. They fault the disappointing, unconvincing creature effects, which undercut an otherwise enjoyable adaptation.
