Maria Lassnig and Edvard Munch
Kunsthaus, Heimplatz 1, 8001 Zürich, Altstadt
About
A major special exhibition shows works by Maria Lassnig and Edvard Munch together for the first time at the Kunsthaus Zürich, which owns the largest Munch collection outside Norway. The Austrian artist (1919–2014) and the Norwegian painter (1863–1944) used colour not only as a creative means but also as a strong expressive element for emotions, physical sensations and a relationship to the world. Around 160 paintings and works on paper reveal astonishing parallels between their works and biographies, although more than half a century separates them. For both, painting was more than a technique – a form of self-inquiry, summed up in the subtitle "Flow of painting = flow of life".
