About
RAKU-Keramikkurs is a three-day ceramics course leading from raw clay to the finished fired piece. It is run by the Atelier KOBO Keramikwerkstatt (Denis Twerenbold) in cooperation with GZ Wollishofen (Mirjana Carigiet). Participants learn various building and surface techniques connected to Raku, a firing technique originally from Japan that was further developed in America and Europe in the 1950s and 1960s. On the first two days vessels or sculptures are shaped and bisque-fired, and on the third day participants fire their own pieces themselves in the Raku technique at around 1000 °C, with reduction and smoking in a sawdust bed, creating the typical craquelé patterns; the course suits beginners as well as advanced learners.
