About
A panel discussion with a small reception afterwards about the Federal Ministry for Expellees (1949–1969), the highest federal authority responsible for the affairs of around 8 million expellees and refugees in West Germany. It is hosted by the Documentation Centre for Displacement, Expulsion, Reconciliation and the Federal Archives. After welcomes from the centre's director and the president of the Federal Archives, three contemporary historians discuss under the moderation of a research associate at the centre. The topic is the role of old networks, party membership books and personal connections in the ministry, whose first minister had been a resistance fighter while his successor was deeply entangled in the Nazi system, and a new collective biography that examines these questions systematically for the first time.
