About
„La Sur Real Colombia: Ana Rosa“ is a documentary about a family investigation in Colombia. While clearing out her parents' house, the Colombian documentary filmmaker Catalina Villar discovers the old identity card of her paternal grandmother Ana Rosa, who underwent a lobotomy in the late 1950s. Seeking to understand the reasons for the procedure, she reconstructs a family history marked by silence through interviews with psychiatrists, family visits and archival materials. In doing so she uncovers a broader history of control over women's bodies and questions the family ideals that have shaped an entire era.
