Berlin sculpture find — ‘Degenerate art’ in the rubble
PETRI Berlin, Gertraudenstraße 8, Mitte
6 Euro
About
A public guided tour of the 'Berlin Sculpture Find', a group of works brought together by fate and marked by abuse and destruction, now a globally recognised symbol of the Nazi dictatorship's persecution of modern art. The tour sheds light on why these works of classical modernism were considered 'degenerate art', how they were shown at the propaganda exhibition of the same name in Munich in 1937, and who the artists were. It also tells the story of the discovery of the sculptures during excavations in Berlin-Mitte in 2010. Visitors get up close to the sculptures and see what restoration can repair, but also how much has been lost in the bomb rubble.
