About

Der Diplomat (1994) is a documentary about the French diplomat Stéphane Hessel. The filmmakers behind it are directors Antje Starost, Hans Helmut Grotjahn and Manfred Flügge. It tells of Hessel's path as a Resistance fighter, survivor of the Buchenwald concentration camp and diplomat at the founding of the UN, and also portrays him as a poet, essayist and cosmopolitan. His 2010 essay "Indignez Vous!" made him a symbol of the "Occupy movement".
