About
Eyal Sivan's film "Ein Spezialist" assembles solely original footage from the 1961 Eichmann trial into an intense portrait of the accused. It draws on previously unpublished material from the four trial cameras, of which 350 of the roughly 500 recorded hours survive today. Guided by Hannah Arendt's notion of the "banality of evil", the film shows Eichmann not as a monster but as an unremarkable bureaucrat who hides behind procedural rules and filing regulations. It makes visible how organised mass murder could function as an administrative act.
