Die Freiheit des Erzählers – Das Leben des Gad Beck
Klick Kino, Windscheidstraße 19, 10627 Berlin, Charlottenburg
About
This is a screening of the documentary film "Die Freiheit des Erzählens – Das Leben des Gad Beck". Made by Carsten Does and Robin Cackett, the film tells the life of Gad Beck, who as leader of the group "Chug Chaluzi" organized the survival of numerous Jews living underground during the last two war years, and raises the question of how history is remembered, processed and told. Beck was ten years old when the National Socialists came to power, and at nineteen his great love Manfred Lewin was deported to Auschwitz. In 1943 he was interned as a "jüdischer Mischling" in the Berlin collection camp Rosenstraße and released again after protests by non-Jewish relatives; Carsten Does and Robin Cackett are among the guests.
