About
A discussion on ILO Convention No. 169, the only internationally legally binding agreement that comprehensively protects the rights of Indigenous Peoples, which Brazil ratified in 2002 and Germany in 2021. Guests from Brazil, including Maria Eliete Juruna, Letícia Abreu, Larissa Vieira and Flávio Machado, share their experiences with large-scale projects such as dams, data centers and waterway expansions affecting indigenous territories. The focus is on free, prior and informed consultation (FPIC) and the question of Germany's responsibility when political or economic decisions impact Indigenous Peoples in other countries. The event is jointly organized by Brot für die Welt, Caritas international, Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung, Kooperation Brasilien (KoBra), FDCL, ECCHR, LAI, GfbV and further partners; with simultaneous Portuguese-German interpretation, it opens with the world premiere of the Brazilian documentary „Ser. Eis a questão“.
