The Zone of Interest
Hackesche Höfe Kino, Rosenthaler Straße 40-41, 10178 Berlin, Mitte
About
Jonathan Glazer's film “The Zone of Interest” shows the family of Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höß, who leads a seemingly idyllical life in a house with a garden directly next to the extermination camp. While the crimes remain invisible behind the wall, the horrors are omnipresent in sounds, casual conversations and traces reaching into the family's everyday life. The film shows in a chilling way that the perpetrators' life can only seemingly be separated from the crimes next door. Christian Friedel, Sandra Hüller, Freya Kreutzkam and Max Beck appear.

Critics
8.2Very good
Critics praise the cold, precise imagery, the unsettling sound design and the refusal to show the horror directly. There is little criticism; some find the spare, icy approach demanding rather than accessible.
