About
A lecture on the writer Elfriede Brüning (1910–2014) and her post-war novel »… damit du weiterlebst« (1949), given by Mimmi Woisnitza, who researches proletarian-revolutionary aesthetics in the GDR. The novel sets the survival story of Lotte Burkhardt, a single Jewish mother, alongside the story of Hanns and Hilde Coppi, whose executions were stylised in the GDR into a heroic narrative of resistance. In this way Brüning undermines the GDR's state-prescribed antifascism by recording what it left out: women's experiences beyond the heroic tale. Admission is free, and the event is a project of the Literaturforum im Brecht-Haus with the Arbeitskreis Politische Ästhetiken.
