About
The oratorio “Elias” by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy is performed at the Martin-Luther-Kirche in a chamber music version. The work tells, from the First Book of Kings, of the prophet Elijah's deeds, his courageous stand for faith in God and the confrontations with the priests of Baal. Those taking part are the choir of the Kulturkirche Nikodemus, the Kantorei of the Evangelical congregation Nord-Neukölln and Fürbitt-Melanchthon-Kirche, as well as soloists and an orchestra conducted by Seraphim Schirrmacher and Arisa Ishibashi. With its moving choirs, arias and ensembles, “Elias” counts among the most significant sacred works of the 19th century.
