About
„Helene Weigel – Revolutionärin im Rampenlicht“ is a film portrait of the actress and intendant Helene Weigel. Director Maria Wischnewski traces, with archive material, personal letters and contemporary witnesses such as Katharina Thalbach, Johanna Schall and Manfred Karge, her path from the „loudest actress in Berlin“ to intendant of the Berliner Ensemble. The film also tells of the private side of her highly political life and of the artistic-intellectual symbiosis between Bertolt Brecht and Helene Weigel. It presents a shrewd portrait of a woman of action who was too good for nothing.
